FAQ
-
What's your class schedule?
We train twice a day like most traditional muay Thai gyms -- morning and late afternoon. We don't have a class schedule like western gyms — our training is one-on-one with our professional fighters and trainers.
The morning sessions start at around 6,.30 to 7am and afternoon around 3-3.30pm. The sessions last 2-3 hours. We start with a long run in the morning (up to 10km depending on your fitness level) and a shorter one in the afternoon (4-6 km) and then padwork with the trainers, bagwork and fitness. In the afternoon there is sparring and clinching too. Training is customized to your fitness and skill level. -
What equipment should I bring?
The essentials are hand wraps, mouth guard, shin guards, gloves and shorts. You need quite a few pairs of shorts for training twice a day in the Thai heat. We have equipment here for use, but many people like to take advantage of the Thai prices and pick up some gear in Bangkok during their stay.
-
Should I tip my trainers?
While it’s not expected, tipping your trainer is customary in Muay Thai gyms, especially after a fight. If you’re unsure what to tip you can ask us when you’re here!
-
What does it mean when the gym is full?
We keep a limit on the amount of students we can train, so as to keep the quality of training high and maintain the intimate, family atmosphere. When the gym is full, it means we’ve also reached capacity with the number of students we can train.
-
Do you sponsor (non Thai) fighters? If I fight for the gym, can I get a discount on the training package?
In a word, no. The cost of feeding, training, housing fighters, and getting them and their corners to events is considerable. Most often these expenses heavily outweigh the average purse for a non Thai fighters in the highly competitive Bangkok area.
-
Do the trainers speak English?
Not fluently though they try their best. Most have a basic vocabulary of Muay Thai related terms. We also have some bilingual people at the gym who can act as translators.
-
How far in advance do I need to book and do I need to make a deposit?
Generally it’s advisable to book at least 2 months in advance as we get a lot of advance bookings. We limit the amount of people to keep the training quality high. No deposits are required.
-
Is it possible to get a sak yant while I’m there?
Yes we can arrange sak yants through a local temple. Receiving a sak yant is a sacred process; we suggest you thoroughly research the subject beforehand.
-
How do I make a booking??
Just email us at sitmonchaimuaythai@gmail.com or contact us through our contact form on this website. You can also reach us through social media with your preferred dates and we can reserve a space for you.
-
Are there hotels and/or room rentals in the area?
We’re located in a small town and there aren’t a lot of options other than the gym accommodation. Apartments don’t come up for rent very often, and when they do, they often require a minimum 4 month lease. If you’re planning to come longterm, but want to stay outside of the gym, we can discuss the options with you directly.
-
Do you offer an airport transfer service?
Yes. Our driver charges 2000 THB for the service. The drive to the gym is roughly 2 hours from Survarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.
-
Is there training on Sundays?
No. Like most muay Thai gyms in Thailand, Sundays is the only rest day. It’s charged at the regular rate.
